Artist Statement:
Working directly from a live model, I focus on capturing a specific mood, intention, or moment in time rather than pursuing complete anatomical accuracy. I work exclusively in clay, constructing each figure as a complete ceramic form without armature.
I am drawn to situations where the body moves between private and public states and moments that feel ordinary yet subtly absurd. I begin with a nude figure and gradually introduce clothing, or constructed elements that invite the viewer into a particular moment. Humor often enters the work not as a punchline, but as a way to acknowledge vulnerability, contradiction, and the strangeness embedded in everyday behavior. Through figurative sculpture, these moments of transition remain open, allowing them to remain unresolved and observed.
Scale and proximity are central considerations in my work. By keeping the sculptures at an intimate human scale, I place viewers in a close physical relationship that mirrors the exposure depicted in the figures themselves.
